The Planter Bottom Fabric is a high-quality, non-woven geotextile fabric designed for effective planter bottom drainage and separation. The fabric will also provide a barrier to help to reduce weed growth inside of the planter from the soil below. Made from needle-punched polypropylene, this commercial-grade fabric is exceptionally durable, resisting rot, mildew, and damage from insects and rodents. It ensures a high water flow rate, preventing waterlogging in planters while also being tear-resistant and offering high strength and dimensional stability. Available in 4 ounces per square yard, this fabric comes in various roll sizes, making it suitable for a wide range of planter projects.

How is this Fabric Typically Used?

Planter bottom fabric is designed to provide a separation layer between the dirt in your planter and the ground below. The fabric is installed after the planter liner is installed.

Step 1: Build the Planter

Step 2: Install the Planter Liner

Planter liner is essential in keeping the moisture from the soil away from the wood sides and bottom of the planter. The moisture from the soil can lead to rot and prematurely degrade the planter. Planter liner helps the planter avoid rotting and can extend the life of your planter significantly.

Step 3: Install the Fabric

Install the planter bottom fabric either on the bottom or the bottom and sides of the planter. The fabric does not necessarily need to be physically attached to the planter.

Step 4: Add Soil and Plantings

Does This Fabric Drain Water?

Most drainage fabrics on the market claim to be permeable with a high water flow rate. Specification sheets show flow rate but it can be difficult to translate the testing numbers into a real world example.
