Engineered to filter out particulates from subsurface drainage the black polypropylene non-woven filter fabric is the perfect solution for drainage applications while still filtering out soil fines.

Some of the more common filter applications are French drains, pipe wrap, under athletic fields and volleyball courts, asphalt overlays, rip rap shorelines, erosion control for hillsides, and as a landscaping weed block. When used for French drains the fabric lines the trench and encases the drainage rock and drainpipe in a wrap to prevent dirt from entering the drainage system.

The nonwoven fabric has excellent permeability and breathability allowing water and air to pass through and restricting dirt and debris from clogging drains and spillways.

Various roll sizes and fabric weights are available.

About Black Polypropylene Fabric For Your Next Project

Geotextile fabrics have become a “must-have” in the construction world. It's amazing that 70 or 80 years ago, this fabric that separates soil layers did not even exist. This amazing technology has turned into a multi-billion dollar industry with no signs of slowing down. It has been predicted the market for these fabrics will grow into a 4.1 billion dollar industry worldwide. It is believed the number will grow at a compounding annual growth rate (CAGR) or 12.1% by 2025.

The amazing growth of this class of construction materials has been fueled by its effectiveness and the technology has grown into an accepted best management practice required by governmental agencies as well as property owners, contractors, cities, and towns.

Geotextile fabrics installed correctly will add value while separating soil where needed. One of the leading benefits of using geotextiles is soil separation.

Before geotextiles came along construction sites had difficulty mixing layers of soil. Road work including applying gravel to the surface would just sink into the subsoil. In the construction business, it's believed that if you apply 50 lbs of stone over 50 lbs of mud, you still get mud. As the stone is heavier, it will simply sink into the softer subsoil. Today, properly applying geotextile fabric over a subsurface will greatly help to reduce mixing and contamination.

Non-woven fabric

Non-Woven Geo Fabric

In order to get the results you are looking for, you must choose the right geotextile fabric. The 2 specific fabrics are woven and non-woven geotextiles.

Woven geotextiles are made of slit film polypropylene materials. This material offers high strength and low absorption making it an excellent choice for crossing over wet areas or substandard soil. Non-woven fabrics are made of needle-punched polypropylene for great separation and filtration.

Non-woven geotextiles provide high absorption making it an excellent choice for construction projects. This product allows excellent absorption while allowing water to pass through while restricting dirt and debris from entering and clogging up the system

Outside of these two products, there are two other products that serve as ground stabilization, woven monofilament, and spun-bond geotextiles. Woven monofilament provides the strength of woven along with the absorption of non-woven products. Like other non-woven fabrics, Spun-bond fabrics integrate the fortitude of woven geotextiles along with the absorbency of non-woven products.

Woven Geotextiles

This product is normally used under driveways, streets, highways, and parking lots. It has been proven that woven geotextiles are very effective for spanning over wet, weaker, and unacceptable subgrades. The low absorption of the fabric offers long-lasting separation and stabilization.

When you choose woven geotextiles, you will have better performance, a reduction in maintenance costs, and the completed project will last longer.

Non-Woven Geotextiles

This product is the best choice for both separation and absorbency. It's typically used to wrap French drains along with other sub-surface solutions. Non-woven geotextiles are also used under rock riprap facing when separation and drainage are mandatory.

If you are constructing a gravel driveway over a dry or well-drained subsoil, it will allow moisture to pass through the fabric in both directions. Under these circumstances, it will allow the absorption into the subsurface when it rains then evaporates between wet spells.

Woven Monofilament Geotextile

This product is used in specific applications when high strength and strong filtration are necessary. While standard woven geotextiles are used in the construction of impermeable slit tape, woven monofilaments are made of separate filaments woven together in a screen-like appearance.

This product comes with various opening sizes to work with various soil features by combining high strength with strong flow features. With these unique characteristics, monofilaments are often the chosen product. Woven monofilaments are applied under articulated concrete mat systems. And under the surface of high-flow drainage pathways where superior strength and excellent drainage are critical.

Spun-Bond Geotextiles

Spun-bond geotextiles are used when superior strength, durability, and absorbency are very important. During production, the product is spun, rolled, and heated to create a very tough but absorbent product.

When a project demands high strength and durability, spun-bond geotextiles are the chosen product for operations like recreational and landscaping applications, septic systems, and subsurface drainage.
