The 6 oz non-woven geotextile fabric is a heavy-duty fabric that will act as a separation layer between rock and soil while still allowing water to pass through. These needle-punched non-woven fabrics are non-biodegradable, tear resistant and are permeable with varying water flow rates. Common applications include drainage systems, as a separation layer under rip-rap or in soil erosion prevention projects. Available in thicknesses ranging from 4 oz - 16 oz.

Mountain Bike Trails In Central Ohio - Case Study

Central Ohio Mountain Biking Organization, commonly known as COMBO, offers quality mountain biking opportunities for bikers in Central Ohio. In May 2020, the organization experienced an overflow of bikers using the trails. In turn, this led to a great deal of wear and tear. The continual use of the trails and heavy rain events created a major drainage problem that would have to be addressed as soon as possible.

In the past, COMBO used a GEOTEX® 6oz non-woven geotextile fabric to repair various sections of the trail suffering from the same issues which proved to be very successful.

Non-woven geotextiles are the perfect filter fabrics solution due to their high flow rates and small openings which made this product ideal for subsurface drainage applications. The 3-D structure allowed for a significant amount of air and water to pass through the fabric while still blocking small particles. Non-woven geotextiles offered the highest permittivity and water flow rate which is 25 times more flow rate found in woven geotextiles.

Volunteers who helped out at COMBO easily installed the non-woven geotextile on different sections along the trails. After installation was finished, the leader of the group said the material was holding up really well and therefore they did not need to spend more time or costly alternatives on the trails. The Vice President of COMBO said the material was incredible and very helpful for the trail crew. The problem was the increase in use and heavy rains were causing drainage issues for the bike trails in Central Ohio.
