The most important thing you can do to extend the life of any weed barrier is to keep it covered. Mulch, gravel, or rock over the fabric blocks UV exposure almost entirely. Heavy-Duty Grade fabric buried under cover and out of direct sunlight is built for 25+ years of service. Water Permeability

Both grades allow water, air, and nutrients to pass through to plant roots. Neither is a moisture barrier. The Standard Grade fabrics have very high air permeability (171 CFM/ft²).
